Frederick Taylor died from wounds on 27th April, 1915, after having been brought back to the United Kingdom but as yet, there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 1st East Surrey battalion was part of 14 Brigade, 5th Division, that had been on the Western Front since the start of the war and during the opening months of 1915 had been holding the line in and around Ypres.
